Is-it-ok-to-leave-your-oodle-at-home-all-day

Is it ok to leave your dog alone during the day?

It is generally safe to leave a well-trained, healthy dog at home alone during the day while you are at work or away from home.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when leaving a dog alone at home:

Provide plenty of food and water: Make sure your dog has access to plenty of fresh water, shade, cover from the weather and enough food to last the day. If you’re going to be gone for an extended period, consider using a timed feeder to dispense food at set intervals.

Provide a safe and comfortable environment: Your dog should have a comfortable place to rest, such as a dog bed or crate. Make sure the area is clean and free of hazards that could cause injury.

Provide mental stimulation: Leave some toys or puzzle feeders for your dog to play with. This can help keep them occupied and prevent boredom or destructive behavior.

Take your dog for a walk before you leave: A tired dog is less likely to get into trouble or become anxious while you’re away. Make sure your dog gets enough exercise and mental stimulation before you leave for the day.

Consider hiring a dog walker: If you’re going to be gone for an extended period, consider hiring a dog walker to come and take your dog for a walk and provide some company.

Set up wifi surveillance cameras (these are widely and economically available at stores such as Kmart) to monitor your dog while you are not home.

If its likely that you will be leaving your dog alone for extended periods of time, start this routine early with your puppy to ensure that you prevent separation anxiety at times when you have to leave.

It’s important to note that every dog is different, and some may not do well being left alone for extended periods. It’s important to assess your dog’s individual needs and behavior and make adjustments as needed. If you have concerns about leaving your dog alone, consider talking to a veterinarian or a professional dog trainer for guidance.

Why do Oodle dogs make great family pets

Here are a few reasons why Oodle dogs make great family pets:

They are intelligent and easy to train: Poodles are known for their intelligence and trainability, and Oodle dogs often inherit these traits. They can be easily trained in basic obedience and can learn more advanced tricks and tasks with consistency and positive reinforcement.

They are often hypoallergenic: Many people are allergic to dogs, but Oodle dogs are often considered hypoallergenic. This is because they have hair instead of fur, and they shed less than many other breeds.

They have great personalities: Oodle dogs are known for their friendly and affectionate personalities. They often love spending time with their families and can be great with children.

They have a lot of energy: Oodle dogs are typically active and love to play. They can be a great match for families who enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, running, or playing fetch.

They have a teddy bear look and are extremely cute!

Overall, Oodle dogs can make great family pets because of their intelligence, hypoallergenic qualities, great personalities, and active nature. However, it’s important to do research and choose a reputable breeder such as Mon Amour Oodles to ensure that you’re getting a healthy and well-socialized dog.

What health testing do we do?

Breeding dogs responsibly involves ensuring that both the male and female dogs are healthy and free from any genetic diseases or health conditions that can be passed on to their offspring.

Before breeding a dog, it’s important to perform various health tests to ensure the health and well-being of the puppies.

We engage the services of Orivet (Australia) and Embark (USA) to conduct DNA testing of our dogs prior to their engagement in our breeding program. These check for specific conditions such as von Willebrand’s disease, degenerative myelopathy, and many others and are very comprehensive. Embark, in particular, tests for 230+ genetic health risks, 35+ traits, determined on breed specific characteristics and individually paired to all dogs.

Additionally, all of our dogs visit the vet regularly for physical check-ups. This includes manipulation of their hips, elbows and checks of their spines. Specific tests needed may vary depending on the breed and individual dog and we always consult with our experienced veterinarians who provide guidance on the appropriate health testing needed before breeding a dog.

We are diligent about vaccinations and worming of our dogs with all puppies given C3 vaccinations and all adult dogs vaccinated with C5 vaccines.

Diet is also a primary consideration for us and we feed premium feeds such as Advance and Royal Canin to ensure that the best environmental factors are provided to our breeding dogs.

We have taken all steps when selecting our breeding dogs to ensure that we select healthy dogs with great temperaments. Our cavoodles, miniature cavoodles, groodles, labradoodles and mini labradoodles, have been sourced from all over Australia and selected on the basis of the individual qualities that they bring to complement our multi-generational breeding program. Striving to continually improve our dogs and their producing healthy, valuable family members is at the core of what we do.

What-Is-An-Oodle

What is an oodle?

What is an oodle?

An oodle dog is a mixed breed dog that is a cross between a Poodle and another breed, such as a Labrador Retriever or a Golden Retriever.

The name “Oodle” comes from the combination of the first two letters of “Poodle” and the second part of the name of the other breed. Oodle dogs are popular due to their hypoallergenic coat and their intelligence, trainability, and affectionate personalities. They are often used as service dogs or as family pets.

The popularity of Oodle dogs has grown over the years, and there are now many different types of Oodle dogs, including Labradoodles, Goldendoodles, Bernedoodles, and many others.

While oodle dogs are not recognized as an official breed by major kennel clubs, they have become a popular and beloved type of dog among many pet owners. This is recognised also by the Master Dog Breeders Association (MDBA) (of which we are a registered member) who are working towards the recognition of the Theodore breed being developed from crossing Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Poodles

At Mon Amour, we primarily breed Groodles or Goldendoodles (Golden Retreiver x Poodle) and Labradoodles (Labrador x Poodle) but from time to time do also breed Cavoodles/ Theodores (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel x Poodle) and Moodles (Maltese Terrier x Poodle).

In order to achieve smaller sizes, ensure coat quality and temperament of our dogs we focus on multi-generational breeding of our Oodles from F1, F1b, F2 and F3.

The exact origin of oodle dogs is unclear, but they are believed to have been developed in the United States in the 20th century as a way to create a dog with the desirable qualities of both Poodles and other breeds. The aim was to create a dog that was hypoallergenic, had a low-shedding coat, and was intelligent and trainable like a Poodle, but also had the friendly qualities and outgoing personality of breeds such as the Labrador Retriever or the Golden Retriever. Australian Labradoodle Dogs, for example, are particularly popular in the USA, with their following in Australia only recently beginning to be realised despite their name origin.

How long do oodles live for?

The lifespan of Oodle dogs depends on various factors such as their size, health, and genetics.

Our experience has been that they do tend to have long lifespans and healthy lives due to the fact that they are from genetically diverse parentage. This means that many of the ailments which occur inevitably in purebred dogs and which arise as a result of continually breeding dogs with similar physical attributes, are (in our experience) less prevalent in these dogs.

We live on a farm and really value the health of our animals. We want them to be able to jump, run, swim and play with us for extended period of time. These are some of the factors that have attracted us to breed these animals. We’ve certainly found them to be hardy and able to keep up with our active lifestyle.

Lisa Kirkup

Like all dogs, on average, smaller Oodle dogs like Miniature and Toy Poodles tend to live longer than larger Oodle dogs. We use miniature and toy poodles in our lines as we breed “down” in size; – none of our studs are larger standard sized poodles.

It’s important to remember that each dog is an individual and may have different health and lifestyle factors that can impact their lifespan.

Proper nutrition, regular exercise, and routine veterinary care can help keep your Oodle dog healthy and potentially prolong their lifespan.

In summary and, in our experience,  generally, Oodle dogs can live anywhere from 13 to 18 years, with some living longer. If you’re considering getting an Oodle dog, it’s important to do your research and talk to a veterinarian or breeder about potential health issues and how to provide the best care for your dog.
